A man posing as a Philadelphia Jury Commission official is using the threat of bench warrants to extract personal information from people in Philadelphia. The caller tells his victims that they've missed jury duty, and then claims the need to verify personal information including mailnig address, date of birth and social security number.
Philadelphia police are warning residents about this scam. While missing jury duty can result in the issue of an arrest warrant, real Philadelphia Jury Commission employees will never ask for Social Security numbers from prosepective jurors. Anyone who does so is likely planning to commit identity theft.
