Keep the Courts Open

July 1, 2009

In a letter to the Philadelphia Inquirer, PMC urges the Governor and legislature to adequately fund the court system so that the budget crisis does not lead to court closures:

"Shutting courts to save money in a budget crisis forces members of the public to wait for     resolution of disputes with significant impact on their daily lives. The courts should be funded at levels sufficient to enable them to conduct business without the need for closures or furloughs and without imposing an untenable burden on the counties that contribute to court funding streams.

It is the duty of the legislative and executive branches to ensure that all three branches of government are funded adequately so they can function effectively and efficiently for the people. This includes keeping the courts open."

We hope the budget will soon be resolved and that the courts will remain open to do the public's business.
