Philadelphia Needs a New Family Court Facility

March 1, 2010

In a letter to the Philadelphia Inquirer, PMC, the Women's Law Project, the Support Center for Child Advocates, Community Legal Services Inc. and the Philadelphia Bar Association argue that Philadelphia needs a new, unified, safe, functioning family court building.

Responding to an architechtural review that found the design proposal uninspiring, the letter notes "Unifying Family Court proceedings into one new, safe, functional facility that will serve as a center where people can come and deal with their family's stressful legal problems is a great accomplishment for the city, the state, and the Unified Judicial System." The letter praises the hard work of Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille, Gov. Rendell, Mayor Nutter, City Council, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and a coalition of public-interest organizations advocating for the rights of children and families and urges the realization of a new Family Court facility for Philadelphia.
